Iron Maiden, finally they returned back to their home ground at Donington Park (at the historic Monsters Of Rock/ Donington) having the ace up their sleeve by performing the 1988 setlist (with minor modifications) and a lot of surprises. Need to point out that it has been 6 years since Maiden’s last concert at this historic ground.
Without further due, the concert started with a second World War Spitfire plane flying on top of us! By the time we realised what took place, the first notes of Moonchild are being played in the background. Iron Maiden enter the stage with great stage appearance and great applause by their fans. Iron Maiden where firing songs one after another without allowing us to catch our breath. Straight after Moonchild without any introductions they jumped straight to Can I Play With Madness.
The setlist was mainly contained up to the 7th Son album, playing also a few older [also later] and rarely played live hit songs such as: The Prisoner, Phantom Of The Opera, Running Free, Fear Of The Dark and finally (a surprise) Afraid To Shoot Strangers.
Eddie surprises we had the Devil appearing during The Number Of Beast, following by a great pyro. Second Eddie that appeared was during “Run To The Hills” and it was a new design. As always the Eddie had a “fight” with Janic. During The Clairvoyant song, we have the Eddie that was looking into the crystal ball. That Eddie contained every single detail and I was simply amazed (but the main surprise will follow later on). During the 7th Son song, we also had a “human” Eddie –or/ The Phantom Of The Opera, playing the organ/keyboards on the side of the stage.
Finally the ace up the sleeve was during the “Iron Maiden” song where by the entire 7th Son Eddie appeared on the stage. The Baby was moving and wanted to break free while Eddies top head was firing fire.
The sound was 10 out of 10. Bruce’s interaction with the crowd was great as always and also his singing ability is still fantastic. Iron Maiden gave us a 1988 show in 2013…. A truly great and unforgettable concert… Keep your eyes open as this might be released into a DVD… Up The Irons.
