We’re looking for the best live band in hard rock and metal, with 32 acts battling it out in Round 1. In this first round matchup in the Devil Horn region, you’ll get your choice of classic metal vs. thrash metal, but there’s little doubt that both acts truly rock.

Let’s start with Iron Maiden, the metal mavens who are known for their theatrical performances. Led by charismatic frontman Bruce Dickinson and featuring a three-guitar attack, the band always delivers a high energy performance. Add in the ever-present band mascot Eddie turning up in set pieces and Iron Maiden put on one rock’s continually consistent great live shows.

And while Maiden’s performances are enhanced with an elaborate stage setup, there’s something to be said for just coming out and going for it, which is what Anthrax do so well. Though some of the names have changed over the years, the core of guitarist Scott Ian, bassist Frank Bello and drummer Charlie Benante continually rock audiences with aplomb. With the return of frontman Joey Belladonna and the addition of guitarist Jon Donais, Anthrax are a lean mean live machine.

So, who will advance to Round 2 — Iron Maiden or Anthrax? Vote for your favorite in the poll below until Tuesday, July 14, at 10AM ET.
